June 3: My first in Lima.

The deportation of American terrorist Lori Berenson was declared 'not urgent' by president Alan Garcia, who remarked that 'a storm is being made in a glass of water'. Berenson has been released from prison after completing 15 of her 20 year sentence for acts of terrorism committed while with the Movimiento Revolucionario Tupac Amaru.

The family of Daysi Cuevas, a young Peruvian girl who has gained notoriety for comments regarding the legal status of her parents to first lady Michelle Obama during a recent school visit, has been assured that their daughter's comments will have no consequences.

Dutchman Joran Van der Sloot, suspected for his involvement in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba in 2005, was detained today in Chile after fleeing PerĂº as the primary suspect in the killing of two young women in the Miraflores neighborhood of Lima.
